Homophiles and Angry Burning Witches

I really should work on Coffret... but first, I sort of have a request to make, even though all of two people read this... my dad asked me yesterday for a manga. Or, rather, to draw him one. Based loosely on a book called 'The Traveler' by [insert author here, sorry, I don't remember], the story is about families of Harlequins who protect certain powerful people [or maybe other families]. There's a vast network of them all around the world, all of them knowing each other. They dress in the classic Harlequin/Arlequin/Arecchino[or whatever it was] outfits and are highly skilled. Some of them live "normal" lives, befriending their charges without them knowing. There's a big bad, too, of course.However, in order to be able to design the characters for this, I'm going to need information on them. I know they're based on an old theatrical play- French, I think- that I can't remember, but what I most need is references, facts, etc. If anyone ever reads this and can tell me something about them, please do so!
